(Image credit: Natalie Rae Autumn/Winter 2012.)
There are numerous designers I have heaps of admiration for, and then there are designers I simply adore. Natalie Rae; an ethical womenswear designer from San Diego, California who is currently living and working in London, United Kingdom, would have to be one of them designers I adore. Even though Natalie has released just 3 collections to date, including her Graduate collection, her design technique and overall finish is absolutely superb. ...
(Image credit: 'Dark Night, Crescent Moon' by Dreams of Norway.)
'Dark Night, Crescent Moon' is the name of a limited edition collection by Norwegian jewellery designer duo Nina Einarsen and Iselin Strømsvåg, and their brand Dreams of Norway. I will be the first to admit that I have paid very little attention to Nina and Iselin, despite knowing about their lovely brand, and I can assure you that I'm now regretting not posting about the duo sooner.

When it comes to designers with breath taking resumes, I think that Danish womenswear designer Anne Sofie Madsen is up there with some of the best. Anne studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Design and began her career in the fashion industry as she trained under John Galliano for Dior in Paris. Anne then moved to London, United Kingdom where she worked for Alexander McQueen as a Junior Designer. It seems that two o...

As the weather here in the United Kingdom continues to disappoint, I'm spending more and more time indoors. My days seem to consist of college, work and listening to Marina and the Diamonds at full volume. Some may say it's boring, but to me, it's better that way. The great outdoors seems to continuously promise nothing but a sharp, cold wind and rain. It is with this that I've been sifting through the internet an inordinate amount and, I've disco...

I have the wonderful team over at Bloody Gray to thank for my recent discovery of London-based womenswear designer Keren Brat and her ethical label K.Brat, alongside the K.Brat Autumn/Winter 2012 collection - entitled 'The Sinister Crawl' - that was inspired by Entomology, the study of insects. All of Keren's designs are relatively structured and the reference to insects is somewhat apparent throughout. I can't help but admire the wonderful cus... Continue reading ...

Despite being youthful myself, when it comes to designers and brands, it's not very often that I opt for the youthful, but instead the sensible, artsy or outright bizarre. I used to be extremely interested in urban brands, but for some reason, I left that behind. It is with this that I'm delighted to introduce you to Faith21; a unisex brand based in Bali, Indonesia, that's inspired predominately by surfing, skating, street art and ...
Paloma Faith is another favourite of mine when it comes to talented female vocalists, alongside the likes of Marina Diamandis, Florence Welch and Kate Nash, and her new track "Picking Up The Pieces" is superb!
Charlotte Martyr is a French designer who hand carves all of her models herself in her workshop near Lyon, France. She established her jewellery brand in 2009, and has seen nothing but success since. Charlotte uses silver and gold predominately throughout the majority of her collections, and has an interest in the past that dominates a large percentage her recent work.
"Archeology" is the name of Charlotte's Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, and...
When I first discovered Italian designer Claudia Ligari, I was not just excited, but ecstatic. Her incredibly innovative and urban approach to design intrigued me, and continues to do so. Claudia graduated from Istituto Marangoni in Milan, Italy in 2004 and, not long after, moved to London, United Kingdom and began an internship at Alexander McQueen. After soaking up bundles of knowledge whilst interning for an array of additional design...

With a write-up from the likes of Susanna Lau (Susie Bubble) of Style Bubble under its belt, Digitaria has had more than its fair share of coverage. So that I don't bore you with a tediously long post, I will simply outline the basic foundations of the brand and their Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
Digitaria is an innovative Athens, Greece-based brand that offers bespoke tailoring and strong silhouettes that appeal to both men and women. The brand...
I've recently been taking an inordinate amount of interest in men's tailoring and how to look, what most would describe as, snappy or sharp. Kormákur & Skjöldur is an Icelandic menswear brand that was established in the autumn of 2010 by Kormákur Geirharðsson, Skjöldur Sigurjónsson and fashion designer Guðmundur Jörundsson.
My brother always did have a good taste in music, and this wonderful track by Fun ft. Janelle Monáe that he introduced me to a week or two ago really hit the spot. Before you give it a listen, please keep in mind that this track is incredibly catchy and potentially addictive. One, innocent listen simply isn't enough!

Hampus Berggren is a Swedish, London-based menswear designer who graduated from BA Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins in 2011. I've been following the work of Australian, London-based designer Kelly Love for a while now, and she's never failed to impress me with her impeccable, feminine approach to design. AMEN is a brand I came across a month or two ago whilst surfing through the online delight that is This is Transition; a Singaporean online boutique and brand that was founded by Clinton Leicester and Nc Wong, who are incidentally also the founders of AMEN. Yet not to worry, as I have deemed this as the beginning of something exciting, and have some fantastic project... Continue reading ...
What would you consider to be the aesthetic behind Thom Neal? For me its just the whole 'Made in England' thing - I have a great passion for UK manufactured things, because as a country we are so good at creating ‘quality’. It's such a shame that manufacturing has diminished so much.
What were you doing before you formed Thom Neal?
I have done a bit of everything to be honest. I didn't know what I wanted to do for ages and left school at 17, and went ...
Since my discovery of visual and performance artist Linder Sterling a number of months ago, I have been somewhat obsessed with the use of collage in every sense of the word, from modern art to an item of clothing. Yet not to worry, this obsession is a continuous one - since I have been interested in the use of collage since my research into pop artist, Robert Rauschenberg around a year ago as part of my Art & Design coursew... Currently playing: Marina and the Diamonds - Starring Role (Demo)
Just in case those of you who do not obsess over Marina Diamandis of Marina and the Diamonds on a daily basis are unsure as to what this song actually means, let me outline my interpretation. As this song is demo, rather than an official release, that does mean that this is seemingly the next song which will be grabbing an official release. This will presumably take place as we head into the new year as part of Marina's soon to ... Continue reading ...

Even though I've mentioned it numerous times via the blog Facebook page and various additional social feeds, I thought that it would be somewhat appropriate to publicly announce my Tumblr photo-feed. That's right, I've been somewhat dragged into the fad that is Tumblr. I will be using Tumblr as a an expansion of That's so New York, yet please do let me reassure you that this is still going to remain the original and official space for the blog, forever and always.
Despite the fact that London-based designer and Central Saint Martins graduate Richard Nicoll posts regularly in his very own section of The Vogue Blog, I will admit that his work is still somewhat new to me and as a person, Nicoll is not someone I have delved deeply into when it comes to flicking through magazines, reading collection reviews and even carrying out a little research every now and then. Once again I have the delightful invention that is the e-newsletter to thank for the discovery of London-based designer, James Hock. I have recently began taking an interest in not just the unique and slightly odd, but also the outright bizarre, which brings me back to the work of James Hock. James is what I would describe as the epitome of alternative design, as his fascination with fringing and what seems to be a form of shredding techniques is beyond astonishi...

Despite the fact that Hentsch Man is a menswear label which I have only recently began paying attention to, after signing up to the label newsletter two weeks or so ago, I can't deny that I have been taken somewhat rapidly by the designs on offer. Despite the fact that patriotism has never been my thing, I won’t deny the fact that I do have a growing respect for the British fashion industry. Admittedly, this growing respect is somewhat of a new thought of mine and yes, you may have guessed that the reason behind this growing respect is Young British Designers – an online boutique which retails collections from both emerging and established British designer talents.
Who’d have thought, a store dedicate to Britain and Britain a...

It seems that you may just be the luckiest readers in the world; I mean, hearing from the likes of Anastasia Lomonova, Fanny and Jessy, plus jewelry designer Bita Pourtavoosi all in one week? Your friends are jealous, I bet.

In addition to my most recent hobby which involves me sitting and flicking through pages and pages of online-stores, images, portfolio’s, collections and designer profiles in an attempt to find the next big thing, I have recently come to notice that yet another hobby seems to have begun toppling in; that of which still involves me flicking through pages and pages of images/portfolio’s; in this case, perhaps online-stores too. “What on earth is this hobby?” you may ask; my answer? Since myAx+Applepost around two weeks ago, my admiration for jewelry has heightened; I mean, the search for admirable jewelry designers has even managed to snatch itself a place on my "to do" list. Although I usually tend to hunt for the international among the local, recently I've come across a designer who is both local and international, meaning that the her London location would be considered local (seeming that London central is around forty/fifty minutes from me) yet the concept behin... I've been feeling a little like a fashion scout over the course of the past two or three weeks; simply because I seem to keep stumbling across designer after designer, that of which have frequently left me pondering something along the lines of "why on earth has this label still not had its big break?" as it seems that even though I've been graced with an unthinkable amount of talent whilst flicking through a number of stores and designer profiles, it is not unusual to see that the designer h... After reading a wonderful post by Barbro Andersenyesterday titled Boys, boys, boys I was introduced to Oslo, Norway-based fashion and portrait photographer, Solveig Selj. With being just as attracted to photography as I am writing, obviously I couldn't help but inquire in regards to a link which would take me over to the official Solveig Selj website, which Barbro kindly provided. As I ventured on over to the Solveig Selj website, I was graced by the likes of two rather full photographic por... Continue reading ...

In addition to my rather recent musical phase which involved me spending hours flicking through the music section of Myspace on the lookout for some new and exciting bands/vocalists which I could use to rejuvenate my slightly dated library (music library) with, I have also taken admiration in constantly flicking through a wide selection of blogs and digital magazines and posting frivolously in the comments box; despite the fact that this is most probably something I should have been doing con... I've recently come across a number of posts and articles via various blogs in regards to the importance of local connections and creating a relationship with businesses and bloggers in your local area; I will admit that before now I have tended not to pay too much attention to designers, bloggers and business in my local area, simply because I have just a handful of stores which I personally admire in my grasp due to my location and the thought of doing anything but simply popping into their ... Despite the fact that it may seem like I spend my days sitting here searching through a ridiculous amount of online-stores and designer profiles in an attempt to find a brand which I could happily label "the next big thing" (and I won't deny that yes, a huge percentage of my week, month and year has been taken up by this activity alone), I seem to be constantly posting about Women's and Unisex labels, in addition to a topic which I've shied away from yet can relate to the most (when shopping ... I'll put my hands up and admit that I have indeed been sat indoors for a relentless amount of time so far this Summer, in-fact, I'm not even sure if I could tell you the last time I ventured out to the town centre or for a meal with friends, or perhaps even simply to attend a small get together or garden party, either way, you've probably gathered that I'm quite the couch potato, yet when you're living in a small village in England, United Kingdom and have woken to the sound of rain for count... Earlier this week I was flooded with excitement as I finally received an invitation to my first ever London-based event! Yes, earlier this week whilst I was sat dabbling through my emails, I came across an invite to the Margin event. I'm not usually one for jewelry, simply because the majority of the time I don't exactly find sifting through pages and pages of images which all seem to be portraying similar outcomes very amusing. I always seem to find that jewelry can be extremely monotonous and one you've seen a gold chain, you've seen all gold chains and once you've seen a silver engraved bangle, you've seen all silver engraved bangles, yet when I do take the time to click through a jewelry designers work, it is usually ... Usually it's a little unusual to find a label which fits both the unique/alternative category, as well as the title of a mainstream and established designer, simply because it is not unusual for there to be a rather large amount of domino effect-type happenings when designing, meaning that a designer will create something which is in-fact originally 'unique' yet then other designers will go ahead and either replicate the same style of design, or create a piece similar yet with additional sign... The limited amounts of time I have had between studying, blogging and trying to grab just a hint of a social life have been making things a little impossible, and when you get home from a day full of hardcore revision and note-making, occasionally the 'flare' to sit and write an extraordinarily long post simply isn't there; therefore I've decided to break away from my frequent sky-high blogging sessions which would...
As we delve into Summer I have taken a long hard look through some of my use-to-be favorite garments which last year I would be more than happy to fling on before leaving the house, yet I have recently had a dash of reality thrown at me and suddenly the countless items which I use to adore now seem no good at all. In child-like terms, I am now becoming a grown-up and the countless number of tee's and shorts which I use to be more than happy to cover in dirt and grass stains are becoming a lit...

Fall/Winter 2011
Whenever I get a spare minute or two, I always find myself swarming the web for some of the best designer talent around; searching high and low from store to store on the lookout for something which manages to catch my eye. This time around, I found myself on Farfetch.com. Farfetch is a Boutique Online-Store which I personally had never stumbled upon; therefore with a new find in my mitts, I was determined to have a further look around to see what Farfetch was about. As I made my way to the '...

Personal Articles
When lacking inspiration I seem to constantly turn to other blogs and sources of fashion, simply to check out what that 'next big thing' hitting the streets could be. One source which seems to always fire itself to the top of my inspirational-seeking agenda is Lookbook.nu. Although I'm a member of Lookbook.nu, sadly I have not yet manged to post any of my personal 'looks', mainly because the past couple of weeks have brought me nothing but sofa-ridden days stuck in striped shorts, oversized t...

It has recently come to my attention whilst browsing through my most recent posts that although I have mentioned alternative label Alex and Chloenumerous times throughout a number of my posts, I have never actually written anything up which focuses entirely on the label itself, rather than it being just a single link among many at the end of a piece. As pure usual I decided to venture over to the Alex and Chloe store where I would be greeted by something much more vast and impressive th...

Models
I've always seemed to think of models as the 'unappreciated faces of fashion', meaning that between them, they've represented every designer, up-and-coming, luxury/high-end as well as high-street label going, yet somehow we never seem to pay too much attention to them? When viewing the odd seasonal campaign, we might take a quick glance and cough up a mild compliment, such as 'her hair looks nice' or perhaps something a little more relevant to the label- 'I love that dress!' or 'Them shoes ar... Spring/Summer 2011
I have been scanning, reviewing and making decisions on heaps and heaps of jewelry this past week or two, attempting to find a label which is worth posting about; I regret to say that I can promise you it hasn't been easy. I have to admit that I'm not a massive fan of jewelry, well I love looking at jewelry in boutiques and catching up on the latest jewelry trend to hit the catwalk, yet Online jewelry browsing is certainly one activity which I try and partake in less than regularly. I find th... Continue reading ...
As I rapidly approach my upcoming exams, I have been scribbling down every little piece of information I can to help me in the preparation for almost the biggest day of my life so far. As I begin to really 'knuckle down' it seems that a post-exam flip-out is on its way, and as I felt it coming, I had to think to myself "what is the best way of preventing a post-exam flip-out?" and then it came to me- a well deserved Jeffrey Campbell post! Okay, so perhaps it might not exactly be what the majo...
If you had asked me around a year ago "Who is Sally LaPointe?" I'm afraid my answer would have had to have been "I honestly do not have a clue!", yes this may be a sever fashion crime, yet I find that now I am finally taking the fashion industry a little more seriously, I have discovered the true art of discovery; no I'm not talking about discovering a new planet or even a new species of chimp, yet instead discovering the talents of a designer who astonishingly once meant nothing to you. Once...

Events
Eurovision is one date in the european calendar which I would personally mark as a 'not to miss' event. The yearly Eurovision Song Contest is jammed packed full of fashion faux pas, red-carpet worthy gowns and almost celebrities who are so overdressed that they needed reminding that this is not the oscars. Despite the mix of terrible and almost-okay singing, the fashion displayed throughout the night is somewhat of an inspiration, for me at least. I think that Eurovision is one night where th... Spring/Summer 2011
I've been speaking with my friend Diana Martinez, designer of up-and-coming label Estela Balan this past week to arrange a Giveaway on That's So New York and finally the time has come! Unfortunately this giveaway is a little more suited for the girls, as it is one of Diana's Spring/Summer 2011 collection skirts we will be giving one of you lucky fashionistas a chance to win. I think that we all have our reasons for loving a certain style or designer; in my case I think that the fact that Dian... Continue reading ...

I have previously tried to shy away from using networking platforms such as Bloglovin' yet as the readership and demand grows, it seems that my networking was due for an update; with the recent hype of Bloglovin' on such media platforms as Independent Fashion Bloggers, I couldn't think of anything better. Bloglovin' helps both readers and bloggers to interact with a range of blogs from Fashion to Food, displaying some of the biggest talents in the blogosphere today. I have found many of my c...
Although we have now been introduced to the majority of mainstream Spring/Summer 2011 collections, there is still just one which I am hooked on, and I'm afraid that has to be the inspirational Rad By Rad Hourani collection. Rad Hourani has been a designer which I have been obsessed with for months on end as I make my way through the various lookbooks and seasonal collections which both this year and previous years provided us with, keeping true to his futuristically unisex style the whole way... Those of you who have been reading That's So New York for a while now will mostly probably know that Marina Diamandis of Marina and the Diamonds is an obsession of mine, and not just her music yet fittingly enough to the blog, her impeccable taste in vintage and retro fashion is something which I am inspired by daily. Marina loves pretty much anything which falls into the vintage or retro category, adding a dash of Pop Culture to almost everything she touches, including her stunning collect...

Just a couple of weeks ago I was sat right here thinking about how out of touch I had been with all of you, and I was shocked at how little communication I have had with you- my possibly dedicated readers; the ones who can't help but come back almost daily just to check up on the latest trends. It was at this exact moment that I came up with the idea to create the new and improved That's So New York- debuting a brand new blog design where I can just sit down and chat with you (my readers) com... "Anything can be what you want it to be, we can turn a book into reality, a piece of art into inspiration and transform a dress into a scarf in just seconds, the power we have is unthinkable, how we use this power is what we will leave behind on the stone which is our life." - Daniel Dunt Continue reading ...
